I can laugh, you see, because I did the EXACT same thing!!!!!!
Talk about feeling like a complete idiot....
Don't feel too bad, though. I topped that one just last week. New truck = new keys, right?
Only new key won't unlock truck door. I'm at school, 30 miles from home, trying to unlock door so I can turn the damned headlights off before I go to a final exam. Panic trying to set in.
Calmly tried the key in both doors several times, give in to panic. I call my Dad to go get Jeff's key from him at work and bring it to me (30 miles away, remember).
I go take my final exam, go back out to the truck to wait and while I'm waiting I think, "OK, did I really try EVERYTHING I could??" So I puzzled over it a minute or two, tried the key again in both driver's and passenger's doors (no luck).
I go back around to the driver's side door, puzzling again and BAM! A light bulb goes off: did I maybe have the key in UPSIDE DOWN??? No way - I tried that key *many* times in both doors, no WAY I could have put it in exactly the same way every time. BUT - it's worth a try.
I turned it over and voila - the door unlocks.
Duh! DOH! hyuck, hyuck.
Meanwhile, my Dad has gone and gotten not just Jeff's keys, but Jeff himself. They're on their way to school and I can't reach them to tell 'em to forget it.
When they pull up (they found me in the school parking lot because I'm the only redheaded 37 year old woman standing in the bed of a Ford F250 truck) - I had to lie to them. I HAD to.
I told them that I wiggled it and jiggled it until it opened the door.
I just couldn't confess what an IDIOT I was.
I later told Jeff the truth, who said it didn't bother him - he got the day off and spent it with me so it was A-OK with him that I can be a dipsh*t sometimes.
Feeling better now? I hope so - I don't often hang my dirty laundry out in front of everyone but I just couldn't resist. Hope you got a chuckle out of it!
